Review: Garmont Naughty Trail Shoe
CascadeGear July 9, 2008
I recently picked up the Garmont Naughty on a closeout sale on Sierra Trading Post. This hiking shoe looked like exactly what I needed, a low cut hiking shoe that looks casual and stylish while remaining trail-ready. It is also currently 45% off retail and only cost around $55. After breaking it in for the past couple of weeks, I felt that I was ready to weigh in.
The Naughty is a great all around choice for those who lead an outdoor lifestyle. This shoe has performed quite well in hiking on dry, sandy, rock-covered trail. The grip was excellent. I found the shoe nimble and comfortable for a 3 hour day hike and believe that it will perform quite well for longer hikes as well. At about 1 lb. 13 oz./pr. the shoe is quite lightweight and non-cumbersome. Although there is no venting in the design, I have not had any overheating in 80-90 degree conditions.
Unlike many hiking shoes/boots on the market, these look great both on the trail and off. The brown suede design of this shoe makes it very stylish and great for wearing anywhere with any type of casual pants/shorts. The shoe fit like a glove out of the box and has broken in very quickly. It is very comfortable for every day use.
The one con that I have found about this shoe is that it is not waterproof. I generally prefer a waterproof shoe for extended trail use. All things considered, however, this shoe is great overall and was a steal for the price. Garmont makes a waterproof hiking shoe, the Nasty, also available on sale at Sierra. This shoe is not quite as stylish or casual as the Naughty, though.
The Naughty is a closeout and no longer a current Garmont model. For the latest Garmont products visit www.garmont.com.
