Picture it. Summer camping under the stars, a warm breeze blowing across your face, the soft, melodic, soothing buzz of mosquitoes say what That’s right, thanks to the Outdoor Research Bug Bivy now you can sleep outside, under the open sky, and your only thought of bugs will be how lovely they sound as you drift off to never-never land. This ultra-light, no-see-um mesh bivy has a Hydroseal-200 coated taffeta floor to protect you from ground moisture and rocky debris. Meanwhile the mesh will, need we say it, protect you from debris of the airborne, buzzing, pernicious ilk. The OR Bug Bivy features a shock-corded Delrin pole that conveniently holds the mesh off of your face so you can saw logs unobstructed all night long. Patented sleeping-pad straps fix the bivy to your pad so you don’t spend the night slip-sliding away, and a small internal mesh pocket conveniently holds those little items you need near at hand. One end-opening zipper seals the deal.

Product Reviews

Difficult to use
It was a great idea but the design was not carefully thought out. The zipper should have been side mounted and not on the head of the bivy…the foot of the bivy should have some structural support frame like the head of the bivy, instead it just collapses over your feet and I was stung by bug through the bivy because it was touching my legs instead the screen should be propped up…Very light weight and easy to carry but not very comfortable, effective or easy to get in or out…

Use the lightweight, waterproof Outdoor Research Aurora Bivy when you travel solo in the backcountry. The Aurora Bivy features Gore-Tex Respiration+ fabric, a waterproof, windproof, vapor-permeable material that Gore-Tex made for sleep systems. The snow or rain can’t get into your bivy, but the moisture from your breath and your perspiration can escape. Outdoor Research gave this bivy mesh netting, so bugs don’t bite you after you’ve gone to bed. Loops on the Aurora let you stake it down or use guy lines to hold it down in high winds. An internal mesh pocket near your head lets you stash small items such as your headlamp or pocket knife. This bivy sack, which has no poles, weighs about 1.5 pounds ideal for traveling light.

killer sac
i perspire relatively lightly. after a night of light snow, and the storm flap only covering my head (not zipped), i had very little condensation inside the sac come morning. my buddy sleeping in an older sac and of less quality, arose with significant moisture on his sleeping bag, (he sweats a lot) it has easy access and zips well. i appreciate the no see-um bug mesh. it would be nice to have a window in the storm flap to see the stars, snow or whatever. overall, i’m quite pleased with this product, enough that the use of my tent is now limited
