Are you sick of sweating during summer hiking trips Cool off with The North Face Plasma 30 Backpack. Designed specifically for use in hot weather, the Plasma 30 Backpack uses E-VAP perforated foam technology throughout the shoulder straps, waist-belt, and back panel. This system allows your high-tech wicking layers to breathe without being inhibited by your pack. Drop your hydration system into the integrated compartment to keep the water flowing on scorching summer days. The Plasma 30 also uses a wing-style waist-belt to increase support, and The North Face gave it two zip pockets for easy access. A stow-away rain cover is at the ready for unexpected bad weather, and an internal organizer keeps everything in its place as you hike. *Not Available for Shipment to Canada.

Product Reviews

trekking in the rainy season
I have to say the bag I replaced with the Plasma 30 was my all time favorite bag, so it s hard to give it a 5, but we shall see how it goes. The raincover as what sold in me in what I felt was the only point lacking in my last pack (it was a Solomon that was stolen out of my friends car). The Plasma 30 looked similar and had similar specs. It’s a great on-the-move bag that you can cram with stuff. For some reason, when I read the description I thought there was another pocket or two which is where my apprehension lies, although I stand by my 4 rating. Having only the big compartment and a smaller mess on the outside gives you the space for things like sweaty gym clothes, quick access to a raincoat and things of that nature, but traveling through Asia as I am it doesn’t really leaves things out in the open. Other than that, it’s great durable and comfortable as hell when you’re wearing it for long periods of time.

Excellent pack but missing a couple of minor points
I bought my Plasma 30 as an "inbetween" pack for when I wanted to do day/extended day hikes where I needed to carry more than my 700cubic inch The North Face Hammerhead would take but didn’t need a full blown multi day pack. I stuck with The North Face Flight series pack because I love their Evap pads and back support. ( And of course, The North Face quality/support).The volume of the Plasma allows me to take my basic kit (emergency stuff, first aid, poncho, etc) and still leaves ample room for a change of clothes/jacket in it’s BIG, undevided interior ( which can take a bit to get used to packing). The pack is loaded with nice features. I love the hip belt pockets for my camera, compass, maps, gorp etc. They are always in reach. The top /hood pocket keeps my lunch from getting smashed and provides the only outer segregated, covered pocket on the pack. The Event panel and fabric are excellent ( as I found out on the Hammerhead). The back is firm enough that it feels almost like a framed pack. What I would like to see added: 1) An outlet slot for a hydration bladder hose. As designed, it has to hang out the zipper on one side only. 2) Extra compression straps for when I don’t need to fill it completely. 3) Maybe an access zipper to the bottom of the pack as things tend to get lost in the main cavity.

Great product!
I used this backpack on my last hiking trip in Yosemite and Mt. Whitney and it was worth every cent. It is very light and breathable, so despite having 8 lb in it, I almost did not feel it on my back. It made a huge difference on my Mt. Whitney hike (22 miles in a day), so I recommend this product without any hesitation. I agree that a hydration pocket inside the main compartment would be an improvement, but for such a comfortable feel I am more than happy to work around that inconvenience.

Carry all your gear comfortably on your all-day hike with The North Face Terra 40 Backpack. The North Face’s suspension system adjusts to fit your torso length, and an open-air mesh trampoline across the back panel keeps your back cool. If an overnight stay is part of your plan, zip your sleeping bag into the lower bag compartment. Pull on this midsized version of the popular Terra Backpack and tighten the hip-belt to transfer some weight off your shoulders. As the day heats up, take off layers and lash them to the outside of your pack. When you stop to enjoy the view, secure your trekking poles in the pole-loops so they don’t tumble off the mountain. *Not Available for Shipment to Canada.

Product Reviews

Wow,
This is a great overnight pack. I love to use this on short overnight stays, or this is also great for some traveling. It is amazing how you can fit into this pack. I how so much space to use. This is much better some other overnight packs that I have used. One feature that is really nice is that the sleeping bag compartment. It is great to use for you sleeping bag, but also it has a removable separator so you can also pack it with clothing for those longer travel day. Also it is pretty light weight and has great shoulder supports that keep you cool.

Rain Cover included
I have not yet tested the backpack, but deviant from the product description above there is a yellow rain cover included in the left water bottle pocket.

Terra 40 Backpack
This backpack is awesome! The weight belt is comfortable and easy to adjust. I only wish it had a pocket and clip for my camel back bladder. I made due. Everything else about this pack is wonderful. Great for a trip up to two weeks!

sweet backpacking pack for the buck
though its seems kinda small, its all the space you really need if you are down for backpacking and mild climbing. (in CA at least) ive used this pack on like 40 mile hikes and crossing catalina island. i like and so does my back–compared to my friends using golites or jansports. as comfy as arcteryx stuff but not nearly as expensive.

The North Face Spire 33 Women’s Backpack is an all-season, all-sport pack you’ll use every weekend of the year. Mid-sized for the right one-day balance of manageability and capacity, the Spire is a top-loader to maximize its useable space, and optionally overload into the collar for extra room. Up top, the Spire sports a cranial cavity to minimize head-bonking and load-lifter straps to keep the straps from digging into your shoulders when your load is hefty. The Spire features double daisy chains for climbing hardwear in every season, adjustable ski slots for winter, and a channeled back panel for summer comfort. The handy gear loops on the waist belt keep tools ready for quick-draw, pun intended. If you’re tackling the mountains, no matter the season, you’ll want The North Face Spire on your back. *Not Available for Shipment to Canada.

Product Reviews

Solid pack for ladies and fellas
I dig this pack, and I’m a guy (must mean I’m built like a female :(. Solid daypack for climbing and day hikes as well as lugging the laptop and textbooks around campus. I dig it. I only wish it had more compartments within the pack itself.

Good Pack
I am able to fit all my gear for a good day of top-roping and sport climbing. Fits great on me. Wish there was a couple of external zipper pockets for small items like a cell phone.

The North Face Spire 38 Backpack is an all-season, all-sport pack you’ll use every weekend of the year. The Spire features double daisy chains for climbing hardware in every season, adjustable ski slots for winter, and a channeled back panel for summer comfort. The handy gear loops on the waist belt keep tools ready for quick-draw, pun intended. If you’re tackling the mountains, no matter the season, you’ll want The North Face Spire on your back. *Not Available for Shipment to Canada.

Product Reviews

Perfect Technical Rucksack
I’ve been looking for a pack to use as a hiking daypack, climbing pack and camping overnighter for awhile and this is perfect. It has all the things you need laid out logically - bladder holder, daisy chains, compression straps, side pockets, etc. Lots of stuff is removable too - the stay, hip belt and lid - so you can lighten and simplify things for hikes. I wore it for thirteen miles in steady rain in Mt. Rainier Park and virtually forgot I was wearing it. There’s a strap under the lid to secure a rope too. I’ve had another TNF pack as my school pack for five years now (it gets used almost every day) and it’s held up great. I expect the same durability from the spire. Great pack!

Good buy
This is the perfect pack for someone who is not carrying a bunch of stuff. This pack fit 10 tank tops, 6 pairs of shorts, a pair of sneakers, a sweatshirt, pair of jeans, a few bikini’s, and some of my bathroom things as well. It is relatively comfortable on the back and fits very snug. The straps adjust for those that need it. My boyfriend has a bigger North Face pack and between the two of us we carried everything that we needed for 10 days in Costa Rica. If the pack every falls apart, which it won’t, it has a lifetime warranty…which is very cool!

It might not have the room for three offered by the VE 25, but the rugged Mountain 25 Tent from The North Face offers the same highly wind resistant performance while shaving a couple of pounds off your overall pack weight. With a trail weight of seven pounds, 12 ounces, the Mountain 25 tent is the lightest four-season expedition tent made by The North Face. A brow pole up top creates a lift venting profile that offers excellent cross flow while minimizing humidity. Like many of the best designed mountaineering tents, the Mountain 25 has an integrated polyurethane view window that’s cold tested to -60F so you can check on the weather without compromising any of the warmth inside the tent. The guy-out points are numerous enough to weather big blows and the No-Stretch Kevlar guylines with camming adjustments are ideal for pitching in open spaces. The Mountain 25 comes with internal storage pockets for gear, but if you really want to organize (and possibly dry out) your mountaineering and backpacking gear, get the fully-compatible #2 Gear Loft from The North Face. If you’re going minimalist, don’t forget to buy the Mountain 25 Footprint so you can add a floor to your poles and fly configuration.

Product Reviews

<img src=http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/reviews/bars/5.small.gif" /> The Northface Mountain 25 Tent is an excellent Tent! - I had my maiden voyage recently with this tent and under severe winter conditions (snow wind and subzero temps) it held up extremely well. Other campers had problems with their tents blowing down water problems etc. But I slept confortably dry and safe! Thank you for your prompt service and for production of a very good product!

great tent - This tent is great and handles the elements with ease it is a little expenive but is worth it.

addendum - please add this to my review just submitted: An additional significant benefit of this tent is that The North Face is very easy to deal with when it comes to warranty claims. If anything goes wrong with the tent my experience has shown that they will promptly handle it properly with no problems.

Disposition of Poles in High Winds - Since there is a review below critical of this tent’s performance in high winds I think it worth mentioning that when pitching for windy conditions the poles should be inserted in their terminal holes such that they are at maximum tension thus giving the criss-crossing pole structure its maximum stability by virtue of enhanced mutual reinforcement. Effective staking also contributes to tent stability in high wind.

North Face Mountain Withstands Gale Winds of Quetico - Bought the NF Mountain in June 2007 and took it into Quetico Provencial Park in late July for 12 days. Withstood a torrential rain storm early in the trip and later it survived two days of high wind while we were stranded on Lookout Island on Pickeral Lake. Sturdy roomy comfortable with lot’s of pleasant storage surprises once you start living in it. Buy it if you want a quality tent.

great all weather tent - Easy to set up tent that is comfortable and can withstand all weather…

good - i would by this tent if i was you!!!!

great tent - This tent is great and handles the elements with ease it is a little expenive but is worth it.

Reliability in High Winds - I used this tent with a ground-sheet about ten times last summer during wet weather and it performed adequately and is constructed well enough to last for many years use in moderate conditions. I do not know how it performs in high winds and am wondering whether stronger poles might be available for such conditions. The tent is not difficult to erect and seems to be well-designed although quieter zippers would be appreciated. This is not a criticism because none of the manufacturers supply guy lines with their tents as far as I know but it would also be nice if The North Face would supply guy lines and longer than the standard 6″ stakes with the tent. I see no problems with the tent but have not subjected it to extreme conditions. Considering that I bought it on a big sale I have no complaints. I certainly recommend a double-walled tent over a single unless you are tenting in warm dry conditions.

Product Reviews

<img src=http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/reviews/bars/5.small.gif" /> tent - Our family loves to go camping. We load our boat with supplies and off we go! We camp on an island at Moosehead Lake in Maine. The weather can become pretty stormy. High winds and heavy rain. We used our new tent a few weeks ago and it was wonderful. The weather was crazy from high temps and sunshine to a terrible thunder storm heavey rain and winds. The tent held up great. No leaks!! We are very impressed with your product. Thanks for making the time with my family a pleasant experience.

Product Reviews

Good Pack
Good things about this pack: - Comfortable - Comes with rain cover - Holds a fair amount of stuff Sturdy - Variety of pockets Bad things about this pack: - Hydration hose easily comes un-attached and leaks - No ice pick or hammer strap - The waist belt sits too high when straps are adjusted to a comfortable setting for me. Overall, the goods outweigh the bads. This pack would be better for day hikes or field work.

Hydration Pack
I actually just returned to town and I plan on returning the whole thing. When I got into Utah in the middle of nowhere, the hydration pack leaked. Thank god I brought extra nalgenes. The pack itself wasn’t beat around too much - no more than normal hikes but it still ripped on the bottom and the mesh pockets. I liked the way the pack was laid out but as far as quality goes, it was subpar.

Product Reviews

<img src=http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/reviews/bars/5.small.gif" /> Great Bike Touring Tent - I used this tent for a 3 month European Bike Tour and it was perfectly light and roomy for two during the trip. There is plenty of room inside but it’s not a tent to situp in and play cards. I spent rainy days inside reading and waiting for storms to pass. It also saved me from a mosquito swarm that was so hungry I think it attacked my bike. Get this for your non-ultralight trips.

If you’re watching your backcountry budget, the price of The North Face Rock 22 Bx tent has probably already caught your eye, but the bottom line is all about functionality and versatility. The North Face defines their Rock 22 Bx as a backpacking tent for three season use, although you may want to consider the airy mesh canopy best for the warmer sides of spring and fall in high alpine environments. With over 43 inches of internal headroom, the Rock 22 Bx gives you far more space than backpacking tents in the same price category–and eight square feet of vestibule space at either exit. The dual door and extensive mesh ceiling optimize air flow, making the Rock 22 Bx ideal for warm summer evenings under the stars. If the weather is exceptional and the insects minimal, consider the four-pound, fly-only fastpacking configuration. Just remember that you’ll need a little bit of extra pack space in your minimalist backpack to accommodate the long DAC Press-Fit aluminum poles in the 25-inch long stuff sack.

Product Reviews

<img src=http://mirror.altrec.com/images/shop/reviews/bars/5.small.gif" /> excellent tent but a bit heavy - Even though i and other people agree it is a bit large packed up i ABSOLUTLEY LOVE this tent. The complete coverage rain fly is great. You wont have to worry about wind and rain in this tent.

Good tent but heavy - I used this tent in NC in September and got rained on for 2 days straight. The seems held wonderfully with no post-market seam treatment only how the tent came! It’s roomy and a good design. But as for lugging it around on your back try another lighter tent.

little heavy but great buy. - This tent is one of the best buys for your money. I’ve had it for over a year now and it hasn’t failed me yet. It is a bit heavy but overall it’s quality and relatively cheap.

great affordable backpacking tent - right price right weight slightly large when packed due mainly to poles not folding down smaller but other than that great tent for the money

The North Face Spire 45 Backpack is a big all-sport daypack for gear-intensive alpine sports. The Spire is a top-loader to maximize its useable space, and optionally overload into the collar for extra room. Since your loads will be larger, the Spire 45 sports a beefier version of the MGF suspension with a center aluminum stay and fiberglass V-stays to support the full pack and transfer weight efficiently. Up top, the Spire sports a cranial cavity to minimize head-bonking and load-lifter straps to keep the straps from digging into your shoulders when your load is hefty.

Still holding up
I bought this pack when it was brand new (spring 2005) and have taken it up Washington, Katadin, Wildcat, most of the Maine and New Hampshire AT, along with countless other smaller accomplishments. This pack is not for the person who wants a nicely padded and comfy pack. This pack is for performance, the pack is incredibly stable. This helps much when you have to deal with bouldering and scrambling, also it has enough room for an overnight and with others to share the load of community gear, you can spend many more nights.

The Spire 45
This is a good comfortable and well balanced pack which I have used on several skiing touring trips. Even when full the pack doesn’t dig in or flap around. Only drawback is attaching skis and ice axes is not ideal but acceptable work arounds are possible.
