The MSR 3 ounce PocketRocket defines ultralight for all you gram-counting backpackers. Its compact stature does not eliminate functional controls, as there is no preheating, priming, or pressurizing required. Just twist the glove-friendly control valve and light. The PocketRocket stove quickly delivers a steady, hot flame that backcountry chefs can adjust to a simmer or boil without taking off their mitts. It excels on any trip where weight and a hot meal are a premium fast-and-light climbs and multi-day ascents included. Just remember, freezing temps reduce the performance of a canister stove drastically, so you may want a liquid fuel stove for wintertime excursions. *Fuel and fuel bottles sold separately.

Great Stove
This is a great all around stove. It boils water very fast and also has a nice simmer even in the wind. I starts easy except in the cold. A quick fix to this problem is to put it in your sleeping bag with you at night and then it starts no problem. It is compact and comes in a plastic protective case. The downfalls are that on rocky terrain its hard to find a somewhat level spot to set it. Otherwise it’s a great stove. Quick Tip- Take the sparker out of a used barbecue lighter and use it to light your stove. It’s cheap, light, and doesn’t wear out.
Great
This stove has worked well for me in all conditions. Remember to warm the canister in your sleeping bag during the night for a quick breakfast boil. I have had no problems, keeping in mind that it is a canister stove and thus subject to the same weaknesses as other canister stoves, i.e. wind, altitude, cold.
not my favorite
Maybe my rocket is a lemon, I found it wouldn’t keep a simmer flame without going out. Any breeze and the cook time is extended. When the fuel is low it wouldn’t burn very strong. When the stove quits burning there is still more fule in the canister that is wasted. It works fine on a fresh canister with no wind. Not being able to use a windshield is a drag too.
rocking stove
So you show up at camp for your first night of camping ever. You got your gear on a budget. You go to cook and find that even the most seasoned vet is using this stove. You know you’ve made the right choice. In short, everyone uses this stove. Not just because it s cheap, but cause it s great. Easy, simple, light, small, and hot. Enough said.
Truly a rocket
Don’t let the size fool you. This stove is so light I sometimes take it on day hikes and eat a warm meal when the weather is cold. Easy to store, pack, use and inexpensive to boot. This is one piece of gear you will never want to sell on Ebay.
